Qualify (Ire) (f, 3, Fastnet Rock {Aus}–Perihelion {Ire}, by Galileo {Ire}), who caused a 50-1 boilover with a last-jump defeat of Legatissimo (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) in this year's G1 Investec Oaks, shot to the head of the class Tuesday at the Tattersalls December Mares sale, as she fetched a final bid of 1.6 million guineas from John Ferguson. Winner of the G3 C. L. Weld S. at two, Qualify was well-beaten by Legatissimo in the G1 English 1000 Guineas in her seasonal debut and finished midpack in the Irish equivalent before turning the tables on her stablemate at Epsom June 5. Consigned by The Castlebridge Consignment as lot 1987, Qualify has seen her page strengthen over the second half of the season courtesy of her full-brother Shogun (Ire), third in the G2 Futurity S. at The Curragh.
